Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort – Cebu

It was my third time to visit Cebu and all I really wanted was to chill with my buddies; no tours, no night outs, no nothing. So to fulfill this, the group decided to stay at Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort in Cebu - our first stop on our 2-month summer trip around Southeast Asia.

It was Holy Wednesday and the airport was flocked with travelers who were taking advantage of the long holiday, our flight was at eleven in the evening. Late night flights can be really such a hassle, good thing though, our resort has free airport pick-up and transfer. We just had to look out for our names being flashed on the arrival area of Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Strategically located at Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu, the 15-minute drive to Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort from the airport was smooth. The staff welcomed us with cold towels and soothing drinks. The check-in process was swift and we were ushered in our Deluxe Room in no time (check here for discounted room rates).

Our native-styled Deluxe Room was located at the Garden Wing. The 28.6 sqm. room is well-equipped with one Double Bed and one Single Bed, mini bar, coffee and tea-making facilities, cable T.V., en suite toilet and bathroom with bathtub and a private veranda.

We haven’t had dinner (it was around midnight) so we checked out if they could still serve at that time. Fortunately, the in-room dining at Allegro Restaurant is open 24 hours. Serving time was average (well, it was the wee hours), serving sizes were huge and everything was served in our own private veranda.

The group decided to feast on Adobo Rice (410 Pesos), Bluewater Cheese Burger (550 Pesos), Grilled Chicken Salad (230 Pesos) and Allegro Salad (245 Pesos). The Adobo Rice was the winner for me. It was weird because it looked like Lechon Kawali but then I learned that the Cebuanos have a different way of preparing this popular Filipino dish, not the saucy kinda dish but more of a deep-fried fare.

Leche Flan (165 Pesos) and Moist Chocolate Cake (165 Pesos) completed our hefty meal. I am not a fan of sweet treats but the Leche Flan was just the perfect way to cap off the night.

The group chatted for some hours (trips, itineraries and stuff) over some bottles of beer and snoozed at around dawn. We had the perfect sleep that night.

We woke up at around nine in the morning and realized that the complimentary buffet breakfast was waiting for us at the Allegro Restaurant.

The buffet spread was a fusion of International and Local breakfast fares. I hoarded some happy bacons, fish tocino, danggit and fruit loops cereals. Weird combination but it worked pretty well for me.

The summer heat was starting to drain all our spirits so we went out to check the beach and the pool area. The group was really itching for some water action but decided to just chill by the shore surrounded with coconut trees and cabanas with day beds.

The resort has three beach-inspired swimming pools that are set amongst lush tropical vegetation. Our room had a nice view of one of the pools and it was such an ease to just dip into the refreshing pool from our room.

Around noontime, we all went to The Cove Restaurant to grab a bite before heading to the airport. The restaurant (on stilts) is situated in between the shore and the Bluewater Private Island which gave us the perfect view of the clear blue waters – I couldn’t agree more with the name of the resort.

The supposedly snack turned out to be a seafood banquet. We had some Lato and Guso Salad (190 Pesos), Oyster with Garlic Butter (260 Pesos), Scallop with Garlic Butter (240 Pesos), Ocean Crab (130 Pesos/100g.), Prawns (Large – 695/3 pcs. | Medium – 595/3 pcs.) and Pugapo | Grouper (180 Pesos/100 g.) over some San Miguel Cerveza Negra beers.

It was a seafood feast that was so hard to resist. Surprisingly, I loved the Pugapo that was steamed with ginger-soya sauce. I really thought the prawns or the crabs would be the star of that meal but it was the freshness of the fish that won my taste buds.

After barely 13 hours of our stacaytion at Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort, we had to say goodbye to catch our flight to Kota Kinabalu. Staying still in the resort was really the perfect way to kick off our summer adventure. So where to next? Kota Kinabalu!
