Pancit Batil Patong – Del Monte Avenue, Quezon City

Pancit Batil Patong Metro Manila

It was déjà vu. Same time last week, we were scrambling to get to our newfound pancit happiness at Bustillos in Manila. With new errands to accomplish, my buddy brought me to this panciteria that serves our favorite noodle dish in the world, and it’s in my hometown!

I know my Quezon City geography quite well (just don’t let me traverse the area of Fairview) and after many attempts of checking out three panciterias in the city, we didn’t find the yummy goodness we’ve been searching for (me dreaming of legit Pancit Batil Patong of Tuguegarao).

West Avenue corner Del Monte Avenue, Petron station being the landmark; I knew that place and after a swift jeepney ride from SM North EDSA, we arrived in no time. A few strides more and our feet led us to Weng’s Pancit Batil Patong – our rendezvous for the day (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Metro Manila).

It’s a typical carinderia that not only serves Pinoy’s fave silog meals but also Cagayan Valley Region’s famous dishes; Pancit Batil Patong and Cagayan’s Special Bulalo.

I drooled as I was checking out their pancit batil patong on the menu. They have three serving options; Regular (60 pesos), Special (80 pesos – with chicharon) and Super Special (100 pesos – with chicharon and hotdog). It has always been our goal to try the best serving size so we opted for the loaded Super Special.

And as expected, we chatted with the gracious server while waiting for our pancit to be served. Their panciteria opened its doors last January and was immediately flocked with diners who were eyeing for quick-fix pancit goodness.

The owner hailed from Tuguegarao City and to keep the taste of the legit one, all of the ingredients are regularly brought from Cagayan Valley.

Our pancit arrived with the standard soup (patil) and onion-calamansi condiment (they use white onions instead of the red ones). I noticed that the sauce was overflowing which looked like the Pancit Cabagan of Isabela. The generous toppings and its aroma were very inviting.

I immediately grabbed my spoon and dug into the pancit with so much gusto. And then I looked at my buddy with a sappy smile as I waited for his verdict; he kinda liked it. Well, he said that among the four panciterias in Quezon City that we already tried, this one’s his favorite. As for me, I felt the overflowing sauce made it too salty. The batil was also on the salty side. But we finished everything, nonetheless.

Overall, we had a pleasant experience. It was a mediocre pancit but it made us happy, which is more important, I guess.
