Clock Inn Colombo – Colombo, Sri Lanka

It was three in the afternoon but my body ached like it was ten in the evening. Straight from the airport, we checked in at Clock Inn Colombo and immediately went to our room. I slumped to the bed, forgot about unpacking my stuff and went to dreamland in no time.

Halfway through our two-month Beach Hop Asia 2016 backpacking trip, me and my buddy headed to Sri Lanka after exploring Malaysia and Thailand for a month. Colombo was our first stop in our third country.

There are clocks everywhere
Coming from the airport, we were brought by our driver (from a rented tour and car company, JNW Tours) to the city center. We had plans on exploring the city right away but the accrued exhaustion I had from the previous trips made me groggy and super sleepy so we ditched our first plan and were brought to our home in Colombo for two nights, Clock Inn Colombo.

Located along Galle Road, Clock Inn Colombo is an unassuming hotel as it was housed on an old building. We climbed our way up to the second level where the receiving area is located.

Exercise!
The lobby had this eccentric feel to it as it totally juxtaposed the ambience of the old building with its modern chic lobby.

Neutral shades of black and white dominated the space with splashes of candy-colored lounge chairs that served as accent pieces. True to its theme, there were clocks in different shapes and sizes that were scattered around. More quirky stuff were encased on a glass cabinet, some knick-knacks from Sri Lanka.

I went around as the friendly guy from the reception processed my reservation. There was a business center for the guests and a common area with huge flat screen TV and a comfy sofa. A common kitchen and pantry was at the far end where guests enjoy the all-day coffee, tea and drinking water and is also available for whatever cooking needs.

After the check-in process, me and my buddy climbed up another level and went inside our room (check here for discounted rates). We had an option to have a dorm room (four and six-bed dorm rooms) which could save us more but I always want my own personal space when it comes to lodging thus we opted for a private one.

My buddy was checking out the room when I collapsed into the bed and snoozed immediately. The two-hour nap felt so good that I woke up feeling rejuvenated. This time, I had a good check on our room.

Our compact room is filled with the basic amenities; queen-sized bed, work table and chair (that can also function as vanity dresser), flat screen TV, AC, complimentary WiFi and a private toilet and bath. It was simple yet all we needed was provided.

Just what we need for a comfy stay
We had a quick tour around the city that same afternoon and searched near our area for a nice dinner place. A number of local eateries and famous Western fast food chains lined Galle Road.

The next morning, we’re off to Sigiriya so we had to be up early so as to keep up with our schedule. We had breakfast first at the common area.

Complimentary breakie!
Clock Inn Colombo provides their guests with daily breakfast which is included on the room rates. The spread had some toasts with butter and jam, cereals with milk, sausages, hotdogs, instant noodle soup and drinks. It was simple yet filling.

We checked out effortlessly and went on with our next adventure for two weeks around Sri Lanka winding up again in Colombo for a night before we leave the country.

On our second stay, we arrived at midnight totally exhausted, again. We were warmly welcomed by the guy from the reception as if he’s been waiting for us the whole day. He even greeted me with my first name. It was effortless as we had the same room we had the first time and we slept with ease for eight hours straight.

When looking for an accommodation, I usually consider our budget, location and the comfort level. In the case of our short stint in Colombo, we had all three requirements checked on the no-fuss accommodation of Clock Inn Colombo. They have several branches around the country which I would love to check out on our future trips.
