Rydges World Square in Sydney CBD

It was our last night in Sydney when we decided to finally have our Aussie beer session on one of the pubs around. Fortunately our home for three days, Rydges World Square, is perfectly situated in the middle of Sydney CBD so it’s surrounded with restaurants, shopping malls and pubs. You’ll never beat a hotel with that kind of location.

Australia was never included on our travel plans, ever. Me and my buddy were in the course of preparing for our laid back backyard wedding in Zambales when we thought of a honeymoon trip afterwards. We initially planned on a winter trip to Japan but a sponsored deal on a Manila to Sydney flight from Scoot came so we reconsidered our options and pushed through with a trip to the Land Down Under—my first trip outside Asia.

After consulting with One Vine Migration where we got approved on a multiple-entry Australian Tourist Visa (check my guide on how to get an Australian Visa in the Philippines), we planned our route and decided to cover four key destinations—Sydney, Byron Bay, Gold Coast and Brisbane. So Australia it is!

We had a 16-hour layover on Singapore during our Manila to Sydney Scoot flight. Me and my buddy were too excited for this stopover as we got to enjoy our favorite Malay dishes on some of the hawker food centers in downtown SG. Our eight-hour Singapore to Sydney flight was remarkable as we got to travel for the first time on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner for a low-cost carrier fare.

We booked on a cheap accommodation in Sydney CBD on our first two nights. We then explored the neighboring town of Katoomba for a full day exploration of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Blue Mountains. We also got to appreciate Sydney’s history while cruising along Sydney Harbour (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Sydney).

On our third day, we transferred to Rydges World Square which was actually a wedding gift from one of our best buddies.

Hotels in Sydney are quite costly compared to what we’re used to when we’re traveling around Asia. For the price of a two-night stay at Rydges World Square, I could get a two-night stay on a water bungalow in the Maldives. I’m not exaggerating on this one.

Moving on, our friend reserved a Deluxe Twin Room (check here for discounted room rates). We weren’t able to check in earlier than the check-in time so we had a walking tour around Sydney after leaving our bags on the concierge.

It was not until after dinner when I first got to see our room.

The room was spacious with two double beds, individually-controlled AC, TV with local and international channels, mini-bar, coffee and tea-making facilities, wardrobe closet, ironing facilities, in-room safe, a work desk, and a coffee nook. Complimentary Wi-Fi was also provided.

The en suite toilet and bath was equally spacious. It had a separate stall for the shower, a bathtub, and a lavatory. Bathroom amenities as well as bath towels were all provided for.

If there’s one thing that’s remarkable about our room was the uber comfy and snuggly bed. The pillows were also lovely. I am not a picky person when it comes to this kind of stuff but Rydges World Square provided a comfortable sleep at night. I’m still daydreaming about their bed and pillows.

Bathtub that nobody seems to use. Haha.
Our room doesn’t come with free breakfast (which is the case for most of the hotels in Australia). What we did during our hotel stay was to buy some stuff from the mini marts nearby and prep our own brekky.

Rydges World Square became a good home base for our city escapades. Its perfect location is unparalleled as we didn’t need to take a cab (which is expensive, as with everything, of course in Philippine standards) to get around.

With the pricey hotels around Sydney, Rydges World Square can have the best deal as you have the perfect location on Sydney CBD while having all the comforts of a four-star hotel.
