Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang: The Perfect Base in Exploring Langkawi

Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang Kids Pool

It was seven in the morning and my two boys looked like they would be sleeping for the next couple of hours. I got up and went to where the coffee machine was and popped in a capsule. The sound of dripping coffee was relaxing and its aroma, totally invigorating. I parted the heavy drapes, pushed aside the glass doors, and sat on our private terrace. It was our second day at Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang and we're definitely loving our private terrace from our Privilege Room.

Langkawi was the second leg of our backpacking trip for this year. We traveled for 35 days around Malaysia, Singapore, and some islands in the Philippines during my annual two-month school break. For the first time, we brought our three-year-old son with us and fittingly called the trip, Backpacking With A Kid 2023.

Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang Reception

After revisiting Penang for eight days, we flew to Langkawi where we immediately went to our home for three days, Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang.

Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang is perfectly situated in the center of Cenang. It’s just five minutes away by foot to Cenang Beach, Duty Free shops (Langkawi still enjoys its Duty Free status), and Underwater World making it the perfect base on the island.

We were greeted by a security guy who assisted us with our stuff as we arrived at the hotel. He was wearing a beautiful smile and greeted Akira. He then directed us to the front desk where we were told that our room wasn’t available yet. We asked if we could leave our stuff at the luggage storage while waiting for the check-in time at 3:00PM. They agreed and even suggested that Akira could play at the Play Room or take a dip at the pool.

We spent the morning chilling at the pool and then headed to the nearby Langkawi Underwater World to spend the rest of the morning. We went back to the hotel after lunch and were brought to our room right away.

Akira tapped the keycard on the door let out his loudest “wow” and dashed inside the room.

Our 43-sq.m. Privilege Room was already cold when we entered which was truly rewarding after spending hours outside.

I immediately noticed the huge wooden sliding door where the bathroom was. The pretty hexagonal blue and white tiles on the wall where the lavatory was caught my eye—blue is my color and I love how perfectly installed it was. The huge hanging round mirror was the area’s main feature.

Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang 3M Water Filtration System

The floating lavatory was equipped with basic bathroom amenities but what I spotted right away was the water filter faucet system installed in it. Imagine how many plastic bottles they all save per day? Clearly, Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang loves Mother Nature.

The separate shower stall was spacious and the body wash, shampoo, and condition were stored in huge refillable bottles that were installed on the walls—another eco-friendly consideration.

The bathroom was sleek, clean, and very stylish. I will consider this particular design in our future home makeovers.

THE ROOM

I went outside and noticed the wooden wardrobe closet that housed the iron, ironing board, in-room safe, and more. A kitchenette with a small fridge, a capsule coffee machine, and other stuff was on the far end of the closet.

A seating area with a stylish lounge chair, a small table, and standing lamps occupied a corner of the room. It was so comfy and I love the traditional woven design of the backrest.

Akira was adamant about jumping into the king-sized bed when he saw it uttering that the pillows looked very soft and fluffy. The scarlet red headboard added a splash of color as well as texture to the room.

The wall where the headboard was featured a huge illustration of antique compasses that complemented the whole theme of the room. I also love the side tables and light fixtures on each side of the bed. Overall, the room had a well-thought-out design.

PRIVATE BALCONY

I asked Akira if he could part the thick curtains apart to see what’s on the other side. He was so amazed when he saw our private garden and terrace that had direct access to the pool. He even asked me how was that even possible.

It was three in the afternoon at that time and all we wanted to do was to go to bed and have our afternoon siesta, and so we did.

CENANG BEACH

We woke up just in time for sunset so we immediately went out of our room to get to the beach. We had our snacks with us as we rested on our beach mat. Christian and I were busy people-watching while Akira was so occupied with making stuff with his sand toys.

Langkawi Pantai Cenang

We had a quick dinner after sundown and noticed the vibrant attractions around Pantai Cenang. There were street bazaars, indie performers, and food stalls around. It was so busy that it didn’t feel like there was still a worldwide pandemic some months before.

We went back to our room and relaxed on our private terrace after grabbing some snacks from the grocery store right outside the hotel. We stayed on our private terrace and chatted about how our day went. It was not until Akira told us that we should go inside our room that we realized that it was bedtime.

The next morning, I woke up first than my two boys. I got up, prepared my morning coffee, and then went out on our private terrace. After some time, my two boys emerged from the sliding glass door and joined me in my morning musings. Akira immediately asked if he could swim in the kiddie pool to which I replied that we should grab a bite first.

IN-HOUSE RESTAURANT & BAR

Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang Rice Garden Cafe

Rice Garden is the in-house restaurant of Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang, the all-day dining restaurant offers steaks, salads, and local cuisines. A breakfast buffet for two was included in our stay and because Akira was only three years old, he was free-of-charge.

The first thing I noticed as we entered the restaurant was its sleek design. The floor tiles, chairs, wall accents, and other fixtures complemented each other really well.

Akira and I looked over the breakfast offerings and he expressed his desire of having fresh watermelons and grapes.

Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang Breakfast Buffet

Christian filled his plate with local breakfast favorites such as fried noodles, curry, rendang, and nasi lemak. I, on the other hand, had some pizza, dim sum, croissant, and more. It was a feast!

We loved everything on the buffet spread but one remarkable food item was the baked mashed potato quiche which was the best mashed potato we ever had.

We went back to our room after a very satisfying breakfast and donned our swimsuits. We brought some snacks with us and settled on our private terrace. We all enjoyed our morning dip, especially the huge kiddie pool.

We went back to Rice Garden for lunch and tried their Nasi Kandar Daun Pisang meal. Everything on the plate was amazingly good and we enjoyed the fried chicken, mutton curry, fish curry, prawns, eggs, and other side dishes.

Our last night was spent at 99 Islands Lounge and Bar where we availed our complimentary drinks. We enjoyed the al fresco dining by the pool until it was time.

FINAL THOUGHTS

There are so many accommodation options in Langkawi Island specifically in the area of Pantai Cenang. What stood out in our stay at Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang was its close proximity to Cenang Beach, restaurants, and shops. We also loved our Privilege Room because of its easy access to the pool. Our private terrace also became our refuge at night as we mused over what happened during the day.

Overall, you cannot go wrong with a hotel that is situated in the center of the town with well-thought-out hotel room designs and good food from their restaurant.
