Mind Bursting at the Mind Museum

The summer heat could drain all your energy and one way to cool off and literally refresh your mind is to visit a museum. One of which is the Mind Museum located at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. It is a science museum that surely will not only unleash the geek in you but also removes that dissension between adults and kids. Both are free to explore and appreciate the whole place regardless of their age. Get ready to learn and enjoy at the same time. And yes, I did enjoy the experience (given that I am not a "science person").

Before we explored the exhibitions, we were invited to the monthly Mind Burst event of the museum. For this month, they are having the Wild Conversations which features some exhibitions and talks about biodiversity and close encounters with different "wild" animals. We get to hear Isa Garchitorena as she willingly answered all of the inquiry from the kids about these animals. As each of the animals were presented to the engaged audience, numerous questions were sparked out of the kids.

Right after the talk, we went straight to the museum's exhibition which is divided into different sections; the 10 most beautiful experiments, Philippine Science Hall, Atom, Earth, Life, Universe and Technology. These are all connected to each other and even without a guide, one can surely get lost and learn from it.

The Story of the Atom: The Strange World of the Very Small

The Atom Gallery is the gallery with the most number of interactive exhibits. It contains the very elemental forces that are so familiar that we take them for granted like gravity and electromagnetism. It also presents the counterintuitive quantum world that resembles nothing from everyday experience, yet serves as the basis for much of the technology of today. - The Mind Museum's website

I particularly loved the hair-raising effect of static electricity on an installation. There's also this shadow wall where like in taking photographs, you have to hold a certain pose on that wall and after a few seconds you could see your shadow left behind on the wall. Nice.

The Story of Life: The Exuberance of Life

The Life Gallery features the exuberance of a living planet in all its forms. It features the various habitats that nurture an astonishing number and kinds of organisms. This gallery also features the inner spaces that inhabit this life in the form of molecules called DNA.The Mind Museum's website

I love the interactive food chain and the huge brain installation.

The Story of the Earth: Nature Across the Breadth of Time

The Earth Gallery features that first permanent T-Rex exhibit in the country along with other unique exhibits that focus on forces at work in shaping and reshaping the Earth. Knowing natural history is the way we can educate museum visitors on how long it took the planet to give us what we now inhabit. The Mind Museum's website

The huge dinosaur was the focal point in this section. It was adapted from an original relic of a dinosaur. A dinosaur poop relic was also displayed underneath the huge T-Rex.

The Story of the Universe: Its Beginning and Majesty

The Universe Gallery showcases humankind’s wondrous fascination with outer space. It features exhibits that show how all of life, as we know it now, found its atomic beginnings in the stars in space. It enfolds visitors in the fundamental elements and forces at play in the universe. The Universe Gallery includes a mini, teaching planetarium that brings guests closer to the wonders of the universe. The Mind Museum's website

This was my favorite part of the exhibition. We get to watch Cosmic Collisions (new show - Life: A Cosmic Story) in their planetarium and it was great. I really enjoyed the whole show at the comfort of the cushioned couch.

The Story of Technology: The Showcase of Human Ingenuity

The Technology Gallery is the largest of all the galleries. It is the only exhibition space on the second level, overlooking the other four galleries. This gallery presents technology not as a mere tool, gadget, or industrial advancement but as means to flesh out human values, to help us become better humans. The Mind Museum's website

I enjoyed the X-ray scanner in this section. The one you would see at Airports. We all tried to scan our bags while taking photos of the monitor. It was really fun.

We chilled at the Mind Cafe and get to experience the iced drinks with popping spheres (really pops in your mouth). Don't miss that. We also checked out the Science-in-the-park right outside the museum's entrance. It's more than your usual playground.

Science-in-the Park: Nature's Artful Play

This is a thousand-square meter outdoor source of science fascination. Visitors learn science by rediscovering anew, through play, the wonder of nature’s elements: sunlight, wind, water, and greenery. The park consists of four main play pockets: Water, Math, Music, and Living. The Mind Museum's website

My overall experience in Mind Museum can be summed up in just a word - FUN. Being a teacher, I really need to motivate my students before I even introduce a certain topic or lesson. It may be in a form of game or anything that will tickle their minds. From there, it would be easier for them to appreciate everything that will be offered to them. And then learning takes place. The Mind Museum almost perfected that strategy. It presents the subject matter in a very fun, easy and interactive way. I didn't have the highest marks on all my Science subjects but IF ONLY the Mind Museum was already present during my time, I would probably ace all the activities and exams during my younger years.

Just go now, like now!
