Our Melting Pot Hostel - Tagaytay City

I’ve been to Tagaytay countless times and remembered just two occasions for some overnight stays. Let’s just say that I can't afford to spend that much on overpriced accommodations offered there. And then I was thrilled when I heard that there’s a new hostel in town.

Our Melting Pot Hostel in Tagaytay is the newest addition to the company’s expanding lodging services around the country (they have one in Makati and in El Nido, Palawan). One weekend, we were invited by the hostel to grace their opening day and together with some travel bloggers, we were off for an escapade in one of the top destinations in the country.

Tagaytay City’s chilly weather welcomed us as we reached the town proper. Our Melting Pot Hostel is nearby all the establishments and Taal Volcano viewing points and we were so much delighted about this.

Upon arrival, we were toured around the house that will serve as our refuge for the next two days. The hostel’s vibe is quite refreshing. A garden and spacious lawn around the house is perfect for relaxation.

The rooms are also spacious. There’s a Single Room, Double Room and Dorm Room that will suit all the guests.

There’s also a rooftop with some future plans for improvements (a café perhaps). The living room (with TV) and the dining area (with functional kitchen) are also a nice place to hang out.

We wasted no time and explored the town (even though it’s all our nth time to visit Tagaytay). So right after some ceremonies for the opening of the hostel and a nice lunch, some of us went to chill on a restaurant overlooking the Taal Volcano.

We spent the rest of the afternoon talking about our endless travel experiences and plans (I’m with some of the hardcore travelers in the country). Countless beers and stories were shared and I couldn’t be much happier to spend the weekend with these people.

Dinner was predetermined for I want them to try my favorite Bulalo at Mahogany Market. Bowls and bowls of the yummiest and freshest beef from Tagaytay were consumed. Crispy tawilis and Batangas goto were also the stars of the night.

A soothing coffee/hot chocolate session followed after and more stories were then again shared. The night was so young so the group went back to the bar again to cap off the night with some few more bottles of beer.

We went back to the hostel and lazed on the rooftop for another bull session. We ended up doing some breathing exercises/relaxing-by-breathing techniques conducted by one of the guests. We were asked to close our eyes and to just focus on our breathing. That’s for 5 minutes. Honestly, I almost fell asleep. But that’s just ok, they said. This technique is perfect for those stressful times and/or you-just-feel-like-doing-it times and you’ll be amazed on the results (I have yet to discover it).

Breakfast is included in all of their accommodations. A simple meal of bread, jams, spreads, eggs, cereals, fruits and coffee/milk were on the cupboard. It’s self-service so you have to prepare your own meal and make the effort to clean it afterwards.

We again relaxed a bit on a nearby café overlooking the Taal Volcano and continued our unending travel-related stories. We had a vegetarian lunch back at the hostel (by request) and afterwards bid farewell to the hostel’s staff and manager for a nice weekend spent in Our Melting Pot.

If not for my buddies/co-travelers, I think that weekend wouldn’t be as much fun. Truly, sometimes it’s not the journey or the destination but the people you’re with that’s worth remembering on a trip. Thank you so much Our Melting Pot Hostel for being our shelter for that weekend.
