Star Lounge at The District Boracay

Settled on the al fresco dining of Star Lounge I had the perfect morning view of Boracay sans the crowd. I was sipping my coffee after a hearty brekkie meal when I was approached by a staff and asked if my meal was ok, such a sweet gesture. The chitchat didn’t just end there, I was engaged in a fun exchange with her. I was getting used to this personalized service from The District Boracay and sadly, it was my last day.

Spending two nights on one of the famed luxury beachfront resorts in Boracay, me and my buddies didn’t have concrete plans on how to spend our holiday. What eventually happened was non-stop partying that lasted till dawn for three straight nights. And we’re not even party rats, to say the least (check here for discounted tours, transportation and activities in Boracay).

It was the perfect location of The District Boracay that paved way for a good basecamp in our nightly party crawling (check here for discounted room rates). Mornings were spent inside our rooms, cocooned inside the cozy duvet and fluffy pillows. At mealtimes, we preferred to dine at Star Lounge.

Star Lounge is one of the in-house restaurants of The District Boracay. Located at the second level of the resort, it is well-renowned for serving the Best Brunch Buffet in Boracay, we sampled their breakfast, brunch, dinner, grilled favorites and cocktails with shisha during our stay.

The complimentry breakfast buffet (6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) is offered daily for in-house guests. On the other hand, the brunch buffet (10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) was an alternative dining option for oversleepers like us, very ingenious. Outside diners could also enjoy both feasts for a fee.

The buffet spread for both meals was a fusion of local and international dishes. There’s a salad station, soup station, bread station, egg station, appetizers, cereals, pasta station, crepe and roti station, meat and vegetable station and dessert station.

Happy bacons, eggs benedict, penne with meat sauce and pork tocino overflowed my plate every time. I loved the varied food options and the indoor/outdoor dining options of the restaurant. What stood out was the Spanish sardines at brunch which had the right amount of kick that I perfectly partnered with toast.

The Weekend BBQ Treat was my favorite part of our dining experience. We were treated to a barbecue feast of BBQ Burger, Chillicondog, BBQ Rootbeer, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, BBQ Pork Ribs and BBQ on skewers - Aussie Shrimps on the Barbie, Yakitori BBQ Chicken, BBQ Jerk Chicken Leg and Asian Ginger Beef Skewer.

For an intimate group of five, it was totally a feast!

Surprisingly, I loved the Chillicondog. I’m not a burger or hotdog-kinda-person but I loved the explosion of flavors from the chilli and the sausage. It was so lovely that I finished everything on the plate (while allowing my friends to sample it once in a while).

The BBQ Rootbeer and Hawaiian BBQ Chicken seemed to have similar tastes and textures (featuring the leg parts of chicken). It was tasty and tender but I wished they have options for either wing or leg part of the chicken (wing part is my fave part, I’m biased like that, haha).

The BBQ on skewers were also a hit. Everybody, like all of us, loved the Aussie Shrimps on the Barbie. The tender and juicy shrimps were cooked to perfection, like the juices oozes out as I nibbled it.

Nursing our full tummies, we were again treated to another feast of grilled favorites. My body was slumping in protest but as the food arrived I drooled yet again.

The grilled-to-order dinner had meat options of; Chicken, Pork Belly, Baby Back Ribs, Squid, Prawns, Norwegian Salmon Fillet and local fish of the day (Mackerel, Marlin or Tuna). Any choice of main course includes the following; unlimited iced tea, soup of the day, garden salad, one siding (steamed rice or potato) and a choice of sauce (Bearnaise, lemon butter, soy & vinegar or mushroom).

I sampled their Norwegian Salmon Fillet with mashed potato and lemon butter sauce and it was delish! I also loved the garden salad that looked unassuming but the flavors and textures were notable. Imagine sharp parmesan cheese, olives, capers and assortment of greens; quite simple yet so perfectly mixed together.

After the very satisfying dinner, we celebrated with some bottles of beer as we lounged at the al fresco dining area of Star Lounge. It was the prelude of a great Saturday party night.

We were asked by a nice staff if we’d want to try out a unique shisha experience. A resounding yes echoed from the group. In no time, the unique and exquisite design of Meduse shisha made from Bohemian glass was prepared in the middle of our battlefield. The posh shisha was a first of its kind on the country and also, that was my first time ever to try it out.

Citrus Gang - cocktail of citrus fruits (lemon, orange and mint)
We all agreed to experience the colorful cocktail of Citrus Gang. The beautifully crafted tobacco mixture of lemon, orange and mint was refreshing. The sweetness from the citrus mixture complemented the strong and sharp taste of the tobacco. For a good 40 minutes, we enjoyed our beer sesh with this truly unique sisha experience.

The gloomy drizzling Boracay greeted me as I woke up on the day of my departure. I was leaving a day earlier than my friends so I spent my last breakfast alone at the outside dining area of Star Lounge. My backpack was my only companion as I enjoyed the food and the lovely morning scene.

I was approached by a staff and asked if I had a fine breakfast, I replied in my most cheery-but-not way and she noticed it. She then saw my packed bag and asked me whether I will be leaving soon in which I gave my affirmative nod. Another three rounds of Q & A and I felt happy again.

I went down to the beach area for a breather while waiting for the service shuttle of the resort to the airport when I was greeted by the security guard. He then saw my backpack and asked me if I will be leaving that day without my friends. I nodded and smiled back at him.

I was getting used to that kind of treatment; of them knowing our names and whereabouts. It wasn’t intruding. It was that feeling that we’re on a small community that everyone knows what everybody’s up to. I loved it. Aside from the outstanding features of the Star Lounge, I would say that it truly is the personalized service that sets The District Boracay apart from the rest of the luxury beachfront resorts in the most famed island in the Philippines.
