Baguio Holiday Villas and Café

Pack your bags, we’re going to Baguio! I was stunned for a few seconds and thought that the text message wasn’t for me. I immediately checked and confirmed that it really was for me. I immediately grabbed a three days’ worth of stuff and threw it inside my backpack. I was given 2 hours to prep and just so you know, I hate packing but because I was pressed for time I totally forgot about it. And then I learned that we are staying at Baguio Holiday Villas and Café - I was thrilled.

Baguio isn’t something to look forward to, me telling myself.  I for one am very intolerant to cold weather, even the slightest chill would bring out the anxiety in me to extreme level. In contrast, bring me to the beach and I could live and die there. But this trip changed everything I thought I knew about Baguio.

Moving on, we hopped on a Baguio-bound Victory Liner bus at midnight and doze off right away. A little past 5 a.m. and then we were at the Summer Capital of the country.

With nothing in particular to do, we strode around the city on a chilly Sunday daybreak. We headed straight to Burnham Park to grab some coffee. Morning joggers and fitness buffs welcomed us as we stroll along the park. After our 15-peso morning coffee, we looked out for our dwelling for the next three days.

Baguio Holiday Villas and Café (check rates) is strategically located near Burnham Park. A good 5 to 10-minute leisurely walk and you’ll get there in no time. We were graciously greeted by the front desk guy, they were expecting us to arrive that day, he told us.

He then handed us the breakfast menu of their café and informed us to choose from the list. Everything is priced at 120 pesos with juice or coffee. It’s your typical silog but served with organic red rice from the region, very healthy compared to fried rice.

The brewed coffee was served with muscovado sugar; a healthy and unique option than your regular table sugar. Hmm… I’m starting to like this café and we haven’t even checked out their villas.

The breakfast meals were nice especially the tocino and the longganisa. We also had corned beef and daing na bangus breakfast meals the next morning.

Right after breakfast, we were led to our Superior Villa. And just as expected, the row of villas with a nice landscaped lawn garden greeted us on the way to our door. And when we got inside our villa I was taken aback for a moment.

Our villa was huge! It felt like we were in a townhouse of some sort. It can fit 4 to 6 persons. The living room with couch and television, the dining area with functional kitchen (and dirty kitchen) and the toilet and bathroom were just too much. And we were just on the first level of the villa.

I specifically loved the functional kitchen. If only they didn’t feed us as much, I would’ve cooked every meal on the kitchen; perfect for family and barkada trips.

The second level revealed the bedrooms; one with two double-sized beds and the other with a queen-sized bed and an en suite toilet and bathroom.

As a norm in Baguio hotels, inns and lodging houses, there were no air-conditioning units on the villas. Fans were provided but who needs it anyway; you’re in Baguio with its 13° Celsius temp. so who needs fans right?

We also checked out another villa that can fit 8 to 10 persons. It’s a 4-bedroom unit that looks exactly like our villa except that it has 2 more extra bedrooms on the second level.

Four-bedroom
There are also some Hotel Deluxe room accommodations for 1-2 persons. It has a television, mini fridge and an en suite toilet and bathroom. It’s an air-con room and perfect for people who loves to cuddle and curl up on duvets – definitely not me; me no like duvets and the chills.

With nothing in mind to do, we spent the rest of the day doing nothing but chill on the living room. A staff then knocked on our door and informed us that lunch was ready, oh, did I tell you that they let us choose from the lunch menu while we’re having breakfast? We had some Ceasar’s Salad, Salisbury Steak and Vegetable Kare-Kare. Everything was yummy especially the veggie stuff.

The next few days we tried their Adobo, Fried Chicken, Crepes, some pasta and sandwiches. Everything was just lovely. I couldn’t think of any dish that flopped. We’re raving as soon as the first munch. The price ranges from 140 to 260 per dish; it is justifiable with the huge serving and the yumminess.

And the cycle went on for the next three days; waking up late, having nice breakfast, taking a stroll somewhere, go back to our villa and have lunch/snack on the café, go for a stroll again, a lovely drinking session at Session Road, dropping by at Harrison Road for the ukay night market and ending the night with coffee from our villa’s kitchen. The perfect unplanned itinerary.

The Baguio Holiday Villas and Café is a far cry from my last hotel experience in Baguio. They have nice villas, superb food and gracious staff that sincerely greets you everytime; the pleasure of an intimate hotel set-up. I surely had a wonderful time staying here, I will definitely recommend this to everyone.
